Healing; Its a word thrown around a lot but perhaps thrown around too haphazardly? Along with the phrase 'healing happens with time'...yeah it does but not just with time alone!
First lets understand what it means to heal. Many people confuse healing with suppressing. Just because you are intentional about not thinking about the wounded parts of yourself, or refuse to talk about a painful period of your life and you have gotten to a point you feel at peace...does not mean you have healed from your past.
You have only mastered to act of avoidance which in itself can cause different issues.
The thing is your brain (unless you have clinical amnesia or some other clinical condition that causes memory loss) does not forget stuff. Like a computer, information can be hidden within easy to access files or buried deep under 50 other files, but its still there waiting to be pulled up again.

Some factors that make healing from hurt such as trauma, addiction, portrayal, attachment wounds difficult are (1)Seeking and waiting for vindication or justice. This may not come in the time we want or come at all (2) Holding on to who we were and what we had before the hurt. We begin to feed off of resentment and fester in anger.
"Resentment is like drinking poison and waiting for the other person to die.'" ~St Augustine
Healing begins when you are able to let that old version of you go so you can make sure your future self is cared for. Grieve the loss of what you were….to make space for who you can be. Even the best therapist in the world can't delete history, but we can weaken its disturbance and intensity over your life today.
I love the scripture
"unless a grain of wheat falls into the earth and dies, it remains just a single grain; but if it dies, it bears much fruit. ~John 12:24
A seed must shed its form in order to become what it was always meant to be.
This is where therapy comes into play; address the wounded parts and all the emotions that come with it...then let that version of you go. Healing is moving from an obscured path forward to a clearer path forward. You're able to be more present and you have more breathing space to move about your life.

Therapy works! Whether you need traditional therapy for those easier to access files or therapy such as EMDR for the deeper files..... You explore, you process, you dismantle the negative thought patterns, and you create healthier thought patterns. All roads lead to healing.
What an enlightening read! Your exploration of healing, not as a passive process but as an active, intentional journey, resonated deeply with me. The distinction between true healing and mere suppression is crucial, and your article sheds light on this beautifully. The metaphor of the grain of wheat dying to bear fruit, and the encouragement to let go of the past to make space for a brighter future, was spot on in my opinion. This article underscores the invaluable role of therapy in this process, offering hope and guidance for those on their healing journey. I'm looking forward to reading more of your insightful articles. Great job!
